Depression

Understanding and Help with Depression,
nr Wrexham & Chester

Depression is a modern day epidemic and affects people from all walks of life. It is commonly misunderstood as a form of unhappiness ("what has he/she got to be unhappy about?")  but instead, for the majority of people it is experienced as unrelieved anxiety, cycles of negative thoughts, often compounded by insomnia (including hypersomnia), and can be distressing and isolating.

Realistic and Effective Help to Manage Depression

Alan Wick says...... "Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a gentle and effective way of learning to manage depression. It can act as an effective alternative to anti-depressants, and conversely, it can also help anti-depressants to work better. I will usually take the path of improving sleep patterns, where that is relevant to my client, and so very often wonderful results just come along on the 'coat-tails' of that alone."

Hypnotherapy - What to Expect

Alan will arrange for you to come along for a one hour Initial Consultation (IC). At this consultation, you will have the opportunity to meet Alan, and decide if you would feel comfortable working with him. He will assess the nature and history of your depression, in brief without getting bogged down in past unhappiness, and explain in detail how he would help, which gives you the means to make an informed decision. There is no hypnosis used in the IC, and chaperones are welcomed.

If you decide to go ahead, you can expect to see Alan weekly at the outset, for sessions that break down into approx. 30 mins 'waking', and a further 20/25 mins using hypnotic trance.

This continues until you can both agree that there is clear improvement, at which point the session intervals quickly open out.

Depression can take time, but even with this difficult situation, most people are experiencing improvements between the 3rd and 5th session, though there is usually work still to do. Alan knows you'll only stick around if you are experiencing results that are beneficial to you.

How Depression Can Affect You
Depression can appear to have as many presentations as there are individuals, and sometimes the diagnosis can be unhelpful, as people adopt the expected stereotypical behaviour that we commonly think depression involves, especially the sense of helplessness, or powerlessness.... the truth is that, with help, you can regain control.

There are some relatively common experiences that fall under the 'umbrella' of depression;

  • Intense, almost feverish thoughts, often repetitive in nature, and typically unwanted/negative/upsetting.
  • A sense of isolation, not 'normal'
  • Insomnia, either unable to get to/stay asleep (both even!), or unable to get out of bed in the morning, spending many unproductive hours asleep (hypersomnia).
  • Experiencing long periods of unrelieved anxiety, often associated with those repetitive thoughts.
  • Exhaustion/immense tiredness.
  • Loss of interest in things you used to enjoy.
  • Feelings of despondency.
  • Excessive use of alcohol.
  • Suicidal ideation.

It's not an exhaustive list, and some of the experiences up there may not be relevant to you specifically, but you are likely to see a  degree of familiarity.

It's easy to understand why people feel helpless, but there are ways to regain control of your life and feel well again, and Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can be one of those.

Alan has worked with many people experiencing depression, and most have experienced improvement, many very significant improvement, and all have gained insight, and above all learned just how common depression is, you are far from alone!
